a Pineapple, the queen of the fruits. This is
due to the extensive fields of pineapple found
in this province.
The city which was founded in 1840, has become

known during the Ten Years World time in which
the Spanish in view of the invasion the Cuban
troops were carrying to the west of the island
, built a railroad that cut the island into two
precisely in the Ciego de Avila territory.
The railroad ran from Jucaro to Moron and together
with the railroad, then Spanish built a fortification
system consisting in 30 small forts .There were
2 Km between each fort and they controlled the
entrance to the city.
Ciego’s economy relies on agriculture mainly
the sugar cane. The city is impressive because
of its neatness and order. Its colonial eclectic
architecture is one of its treasures.
